Adaptations of Microbial Communities to Global Change

LUCIE MALARD
PhD, Microbial Ecologist
I'm a microbial ecologist interested in the biogeography and distribution of microorganisms in Alpine and Polar regions. I work on all groups of microbes with a focus on terrestrial and airborne ecosystems. I uses the most recent molecular techniques (amplicon, shotgun metagenomics, metatranscriptomics) to understand the factors driving the assembly of microbial communities and how changes in environmental conditions may impact these polar communities and their geographical distribution. I'm interested in how microbial genomes define the survival in extreme ecosystems, how genes are turned on and off depending on environmental conditions and how climate change may impact Polar and Alpine ecosystems.
